If you're a keen swimmer, you're probably aware that swimming, glasses and contact lenses aren't a great idea. As bad as mint sauce and ice cream we would say!
Most people aren't aware that you can have prescription swimming goggles. Our team of Opticians will work out what the best prescription is for your swimming needs and we are able to source a wide range of goggles to suit your needs

Contact Lenses
It doesn't matter how young or old you are, what kind of prescription you have, or what kind of lifestyle you lead - almost anyone can wear contact lenses. There really is nothing stopping you!
Common situations where patients will opt to wear contact lenses would be when playing sports or engaging in outdoor activities such as hikes or walks. Social engagements and special occasions may also be moments where contact lenses come in handy
A patient really struggled playing tennis in her varifocals - finding them perfect for everyday use, but restrictive for tennis
We talked over her options, popped some lenses in and practiced safely removing them until we were both happy. A follow up appointment a few weeks later confirmed we were both happy and our patient was liberated

Screen use isn’t new, of course. But for most people, the amount of time spent staring at screens increased during the pandemic. More people are coming into our practices complaining of discomfort using screens
There are a few different causes of that discomfort. One is that your eyes are over-dry. Staring at screens causes people to blink less frequently or half-blink so they don’t miss anything, which isn’t good for the eye. Without oil released during blinking, tears keeping the eyes moist become unstable and evaporate, which can cause many kinds of discomfort that people often mistake for eye strain
Take this example, a patient works as a school administrator. Their job involves data input to a computerised system and manual register recording. They are also the first point of contact for school visitors. They had been using spectacles for close work for approximately four years, but with more and more screen work involved, it was becoming a challenge….
We tested their eyes and showed that an ‘arms length’ prescription or ‘VDU’ prescription needed to be incorporated
They worried how this would work- “I can’t switch between 2 pairs all day!”
Our opticians talked about a lens that incorporated both-we explored all the options and discussed their needs
The result was a great pair of glasses, one pair of glasses offering clear vision from the screen to their reading distance achieving the goal of making their vision at work in clear focus again
